Did Governor Gavin Newsom debate Governor Ron DeSantis because he’s lurking in the shadow of the public eye in case President Biden decides to step down in August at the Democratic National Convention? Maybe, maybe not. While there was plenty of speculation in mainstream media and even more down amateur podcasts and youtube rabbit holes that Newsom is keep his options open there is also a point of view to suggest he’s simply supporting the democratic party by highlight Biden’s many achievements.
Even if the above were true why would Newsom be selected to debate with, at the time, the primary challenger to Trump for the Republican nomination? One plausible answer is that Fox New, whose Sean Hannity mediated the debate, wanted to show they weren’t only stumping for Trump. In actuality it was Newsom who first suggest the debate back in 2022 and at the time there may have been thoughts that Biden would step down and not see re-election for a second term.
